Google Hijacker that I can't find

J

JM

Using XP Pro. When I click on Google Images I'm directed to
www.bestwindowsdownloads.com, regardless of the browser - IE, Firefox,
Opera, and Netscape. I've run two adware programs, Hijack This, CWShredder,
and two virus scans, but nothing comes up.

What can I do to rid my machine of this?

Check your HOSTS file for bestwindowsdownloads.com or 207.71.209.180

As it turns out, it isn't a hijacker at all - well, at least not in the
strictest sense. My wife had installed a trial version of Cybersitter. Her
intentions were good, as our 8-year-old son has started to use this computer
some, but there was no way for her to know what a bs piece of crap CS really
is.

Thank you, Will. Any negative aspects to the program? Do you think it is
sufficient for an otherwise well-behaved, yet infinitely curious young man
of eight years?

Did you reset your home page? (Tools-->Internet Options-->General)

No I haven't tried that yet yet will a system restore get rid of it? do I
have to reset under each user name?

It's not that complicated.

Open your brower (which I assume is Internet Explorer) and go to the
tools menu. The last entry is Internet Options. Select it. The first tab
you will see is the General tab. The first option in the general tab is
an option to select your homepage. If you want that page to be Google,
for example, then type in http://www.google.com. Click "okay" and you're
done.

Another way to do this is to go to the page you want as your homepage,
follow the directions above, and then click "use current."

And yes, I guess you'll have to change this in each account if all users
have different accounts.

I don't use system restore, so I have no idea if it will take care of
this.
