Gmail Test

Could someone please help me. I have set up a pop.gmail.com account within
Window Mail. I tried to test the account by sending email to myself with the
gmail account but I cannot receive the email. Meanwhile I can receive other
emails sent by my friends (they use Yahoo, Hotmail and Gmail web accounts).

Another situation is that I have set up different folders within my Window
Mail. I use message rule to help direct all the email that I receive from my
gmail account to be moved to the "Gmail folder." However, some email that I
have received still remain inside the "Inbox" of Window Mail.

Is there something wrong with my set up of gmail within the Window Mail?

I am using Window Vista Home Premium (Service Pack 1), 32-bit operating
system.

Thank you in advacnce for your help.

I think you'll find that's a "feature" of Gmail. I seem to recall some
discussion about this a while back.

Gmail does not allow a test message to be sent back to the sender.

If you have implemented the IMAP version of Gmail rather than the POP
version, be advised that message rules in WM apply only to POP accounts.

Dear Gordan and Gary:

Thank you very much for your help. I am not very good with computer. I
still have this one question, which maybe you two have already answered but I
am not aware. Perhaps I will post it one more time, and you can point me to
the answer.

Another situation is that I have set up different folders within my Window
Mail. I use message rule to help direct all the email that I receive from my
gmail account to be moved to the "Gmail folder." However, some email that I
have received still remain inside the "Inbox" of Window Mail. I have set up
pop.gmail.com as my default. So on message rules, I have applied the
pop.gmail.com account.

Is there something wrong with my set up of gmail within the Window Mail?

I am using Window Vista Home Premium (Service Pack 1), 32-bit operating

Thanks again for all your help.

Can you post the exact wording of your Gmail message rule?
Also, if you have more than one rule, make sure each one is
terminated by "Stop processing more rules".

Thanks Gary for your help.

I have two rules set up because I have two gmail accounts and for each
account I would like to have the email direct to repsective folder. The
first message rule is set up as follow:

Apply this rule after message arrive "Where the message is from the
(e-mail address removed) account"
Move it to the ABC account folder
*As per your recommendation, I have checked stop processing more rules.

The second message rule is similar:
Apply this rule after message arrive "Where the message is from the
(e-mail address removed) account"
Move it to the EFG account folder
*Also checked stop processing more rules

Previously when I was using Outlook Express, I have sent up similar rules
and they worked fine.

By the way, by stop processing more rules, does that mean if any messages
are directed to the first folder, the messages will not be moved to another
one?

Thanks Gary again for all your prompt reply and helpful tips.

Change both your message rules, you have them set up as FROM line contains
people, they need to be TO line contains people.

Hi Gary:

All emails still deliver to the local Inbox first. I am wondering, my
friend has helped me set up Winow Live Email before, which I don't use Window
Live. Do you think I should delete the set up of the Window Live Email?
Perhaps the setting there is messing up Window Mail?

Thanks again for all your help.

I have been running Windows Mail and Windows Live Mail simultaneously
for the past 26 months, without seeing any interference.
You can uninstall Windows Live Mail if you want.
