Gmail invites - What does it take?

Does anyone here know on what basis Gmail makes the "Invites" feature
available to users? I'm currently a Gmail tester - (e-mail address removed)

I think it's on a random basis, for regular users. One of my friends got
that link on the inbox page after 4 days of usage...
