Gigabit adapter prevent GPs - MS KB239924

I am having the problem described in MS article KB239924:

I have implemented the fix and everything seems OK, but I was wondering if
anyone either found a better work around. I have a few laptops with GB
adapters in them and disabling the media sensing is a problem for the
non-tech savvy.

I have made them a batch file and shortcut that renews the network adapter
IP if they unplug, but the autosensing feature is really helpful for laptop
users and I hate to disable it.
