.gifs Not Working on Some Sites (IE 6)

Minor .gifs are not working at all. I noticed the properties said this for
the images that do not work:

Protocal: HyperText Transfer Protocol

Is there something I must turn on or download for these to work? They have
always worked before until now.

Can you supply the URL of a site that these .gif files are on and
point out the ones that are not working.
Also please define "not working" in this context. Do they show a red X
or what?

Lastly, what operating system and what do you have set as the default
application to open .gif?
