Getting Win XP and W98 to talk

A

Andy

I have an old Win98 PC. I have ben given a PC with WinXP Home on it.
How can I get the two machines to talk?

DETAILS

I need to transfer odd bits of data from the 98 to the XP machine.
For example

If it is relevant the Win98 machine has an ethernet port which is
connected to a cable modem. Of course, the Win XP machine has this
too but is not yet connected to the Net.

The XP machine has no floppy so I would like to know what is involced
in getting the 98 and XP machines talking to each other to let me
moves a few files.

Well, Several options will allow you to transfer data from one another.

If you have a CD writer on the 98 machine burn your files to a cd
Buy a usb jump drive
Buy a crossover network cable
Buy a hub and a network cable
Buy a router and a network cable

You will have to set up your machines to use the LAN and set manual IP's up
if using a crossover cable, or a hub, If using a router you can leave both
machines running on the internet at the same time and just share your files.
Let me know which route you want to go and we'll get further in depth after
that.

The easiest way to do it is to use a switch or a router to transfer the
files. Plug both of the machines into a switch or router by using a 2 cat5
cables. This way they will be on a network and should be able to 'talk' to
each other as they will both have an IP address.

You cannot. They are both brain-dead toy operating systems.

This looks like a pretty good step by step procedure:

You are absolutely full of the worst kind of crap and an outright liar.

Typical horsewad from a linux advocacy fanatic like you that gives other
linux users a bad name. The only brain-dead toy operating system around
here is the one running in your head. I've met Macintosh fanatics that
make more sense than you.

Do us all a favor; go away.

Really Steve, don't get so upset. Forgot to take your meds again?
