Getting the "Open in New Window" to Maximize by Default

Re: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/257087/en-us

When I click on a link in IE 6, how do I get the new window to maximize by
default? The reference knowledge base (KB) 257087 doesn't address this
issue, because they assume that I somehow changed something in the new window
to make it DIFFERENT from the parent window -- and that's why it defaults to
this different setting next time I right click on a link to "Open in New
Window".

However, I do not change the new window to be DIFFERENT! On the contrary, I
change the new window to be EXACTLY THE SAME as the parent window (i.e., all
windows maximized). Then I close everything (like the KB says) so the new
settings (maximized) should be stored in the registry right? Wrong! When I
go back to IE and try again to open a link in a new window ("Open in New
Window"), the same thing happens again! The new window is not maximized
(like the KB says it should be). Note: the parent window is always maximized
when I’m working with it.

Currently using IE 6.0, Update Versions: SP2 (Windows XP Home Edition).
Appreciate any assistance. Thank you,

IE does not hold the Maximized setting (as you seem to have found out)

Try stretching the small window to full size. (Do not use Maximize)
Ensure that window is the last one closed and IE should remember the
size next time.

hint:

you can even exceed both the screen dimensions (about 10 pixels)
and then center the IE window (put the upper-left corner : -5, -5)
and you can really emulate the maximed cosmetic aspect.

Sleuth,

I am experiencing the same problem - again.

I just set-up a new machine with Windows XP Home and applied all of the
available patches.

It shows "Home Edition Version 2002 Service Pack 2" in My Computer.

I am running IE 6.0.2900.2180...

Just to be clear I want the new window I open in IE6 when I click on "Open
in New Window" to open maximized. The window I am opening from IS MAXIMIZED.
Heck, I maximize all of the IE windows I open if they aren't already so.

Stretching the window to fill the screen when it opens works, but it is
still not MAXIMIZED.

Of course, I have tried holding down the SHIFT, or CTRL, or ALT keys while
shutting down IE. This has been without success. Why can't it remember the
MAXIMIZED setting?

Last year (2005) I found a site that provided a parameter I placed on the
command line when starting IE. I think it was "-i". I'm pretty sure it
cleared or reset some settings IE was using when it started. I ran it once,
opened a secondary window, maximized it, closed the first window and then the
second and VOILA it worked! Then I changed the command line back to no
parameters.

I thought I had tucked the tip away on one of my machines, but I can't find
it now and I have had no success finding it on the web again.

Does anyone have any suggestions in this area?

Regards,
Rese
