Get IP addr from DHCP router but can't ping

My client has 3 computers connected to a Netgear wireless router

Win 2k laptop - wired connection to router - everything works fine
Win XP desktop - wireless connection to router - everything works fine
Win 2k desktop - wired connection to router - successfully gets correct IP
address (192.168.0.4), gateway (192.168.0.1), etc. from DHCP on the router,
but cannot ping the router (192.168.0.1) or any other IP address.

Turned off firewall on the desktop, went to services and task manager and
made sure that no other firewalls or unusual processes were running.
Completely scanned the PC with Mcafee to be sure there were no viruses.

ipconfig /release & /renew work fine, but still no ping.

Thanks in advance for any ideas!

Here are a few things I would try:
- Temporarily give the PC a fixed address.
- Ping the PC's own IP address.
- Try a different network adapter.
- Install a sniffer, e.g. Ethereal, and have a look at the network traffic.

Thank you Pegasus. Pinging the PC's own address and the loopback address
both work. I also tried using a different NIC, but the results were the
same.

The tip on Ethereal looks good, I'll try that next.
