Get error msg stating Outlook needs to close every few minutes...

No problems w/ outlook 2003 until a few days ago. Now literally every 2-5
minutes I get the following error msg: "Microsoft Office OUtlook had
encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the
inconvenience." It then has the option to restart office and of course send
an error report. After the problem started I installed SP1 and did "detect
and repair." I work detached and do not have easy access to the disk to
reinstall outlook. Any ideas???

Download Ad-Aware SE Personal Edition, update and scan your
PC for the presence of spyware:

What sort of mail account(s) do you have? Have you recently installed any
software that integrates with Outlook (anti-virus, anti-spam, something
else)J?

I have two pop3 accounts and exchange acount (use Avantail Connect).
Installed Mozilla Firefox browser before the problem started (several days/ a
week or two before?).

I ran scanpst on my .pst file - it repaired two errors, but didn't fix the
problem. I've also started outlook in safe mode - didn't work. What's
really fun is every so often when outlook closes it crashes Windows as well -
blue screen and memory dump. Any ideas????

Have you sent the error reports when this happens? If so, could you run
the Event Viewer (Start menu -> All Programs -> Administrative Tools) and
look in the Application log for Outlook errors? Find events that contain a
"fault bucket" number and post those numbers back here. I may be able to
get an idea of what's going on based on those.

Thank you so much for replying!!!
I looked in the event viewer. There is "technically" no error in Outlook;
however, there is a reoccuring event in Outlook (see below) followed
immediately after by an error in Office 11.

Outlook:
Rpc call (EcDoConnectEx) to server (EXMBPR06) failed with error code (6d1)
after waiting (641) ms; eeInfo (none).

The very next event is for Microsoft Office 11:
Faulting application outlook.exe, version 11.0.6353.0, stamp 408f2937,
faulting module emsabp32.dll, version 11.0.6361.0, stamp 40da108e, debug? 0,
fault address 0x000271c1.

These two messages occur right in order every time it crashes - only
difference is the amt. of time it waits (500 to 2100 ms).

Thank you again!!!

Is there an entry either before or after that in the viewer that makes
reference to a "fault bucket" number? If so, what is the number?

This is the only reference close to a fault bucket number. It happens after
the Office 11 error listed below.

Bucket 125488304, bucket table 1, faulting application outlook.exe, version
11.0.6353.0, stamp 408f2937, faulting module emsabp32.dll, version
11.0.6361.0, stamp 40da108e, debug? 0, fault address 0x000271c1.

Interesting - error reporting will usually write an event record indicating
how the error was classified on our end. In any case, the problem you're
having is in the Exchange address book module in Outlook. I don't know
much about that, but you did mention you're using something called Avantail
Connect - could it be involved?
