- Go to Tools -> Options
- On the Preferences tab, click on the E-mail Options button
- Click on the Advanced E-Mail Options Button
- Check the "Show an envelope icon in the notification area" box
- Keep clicking OK until you're out of the Options

This should do the trick.

Not an Outlook question, but a Windows question.

Right-click the notification area and choose Customize Notifications.
Locate the "You have new unopened items" icon and change its behavior to
"Always show". Click OK, then OK.

Thank you, Brian!

This was driving me crazy, and I had tried everything (in Outlook) to
restore the New Mail Notification, all to no avail. It never dawned on me
that it was a Windows issue.

Thanks again.
