genuine windows question

I received a download of the security alert for a genuine windows checker. before I install the genuine windows checker I followed
the recommended steps to verify COA.

in stepping through the COA procedure

I came down to this message:

"You should have received a recovery solutions CD from your PC manufacturer. To verify that the recovery solutions CD that came with
your PC is genuine, please contact your PC manufacturer."

Unfortuantely, the PC maker is no longer in business.

Now what do I do ?........the security alert icon is hanging in my system tray waiting for an install of the checker and I have no
way of checking .

Please follow this WGA troubleshooting procedure:

1. Download and install the WGA Diagnostic Tool:

2. After running the WGA Diagnostic Tool, click
on the "Validation" tab and then click on "Copy to Clipboard".

3. Next, visit the following website and create a post in the
"WGA Validation Problems" forum and paste the
results of the WGA Diagnostic Data in your post.

4. A WGA troubleshooting specialist will analyze the data and
recommend an appropriate solution.

My OS is legal, I have a receipt from office supply store which retails the machine from the manufacturer.

But I won't install anything until I'm certain it won't lock up my machine.

I certainly can't reinstall windows because it would wipe everything off my hard drive and I could never get back to where I'm at.

Just follow the instructions and you'll be fine.
I can assure you your computer will not
"lock-up" or become disabled in any fashion.
This is nothing more than a systematic
troubleshooting procedure to get you on
the path to having a genuine Windows XP
operating system.

Because the erroneously think it will stop piracy and what you think or
feel is not as important as their bottom line of course!

When you ask someone to cash a check, you are asking them to give you
money. MS already has my money and I am not asking them to prove my XP
is legit because I already know it is. Very bad analogy.

Now, if you are comparing patches to the OS as money, you're an idiot
because you can get them with AU. What this will do -- besides turn off
millions of paying customers -- is make the people who use pirated
versions not update and the people who like to take over computers for
nefarious reasons will be licking their chops.
