Gateway Solo 5300 ACPI startup issue

Hello.

This one is either a flick of a switch or a re-install. I have a Gateway
solo 5300. I just updated the bios and now it won't start up (outside of
safe mode). It gets stuck at the rolling logo screen. From the boot log
(snipit below) it seems to start at the ACPI. I didn't intentionally change
anything. Can anyone give me a clue?

Also to make matter worse I can't find my media or codes for XPHE ( I do
have a receipt) Can I prove to Mr.Bill I paid my dues?

My guess is that your XP installation originally was a standard hal
install because your BIOS didn't support ACPI. Now that you've updated
your BIOS to one that is probably ACPI-compliant, perhaps the old
drivers no longer work. I would try:

1. Installing motherboard drivers that support the most recent BIOS from
the mftr.'s website (probably you'll have to get these from Gateway).

2. Repair install of XP - and yes, you'll need a cd. Here is a link for
replacing lost cd's when you have proof of purchase:

In addition to what Malke said.....

Don't bother calling Microsoft to replace your lost product key and
CD. Your version of XP Home is an OEM version - you need to call
Gateway. Moooooooo!

Good catch about the OEM cd, CS. Gateway still supplies Restore disks
(or whatever they call them), so yes, the OP will have to contact
Gateway unless he upgraded to XP with a retail version.
