Long list of Did not load drivers...

My boot sequence in windows XP seemed to be getting ever longer and was
even worse when I updated macromedia flash so in the end I used
add/remove programs to get rid of adobe, quick time, real player,
windows media player et al.

And I STILL had about a minute where my start up just hung. Task Manager
didn't show any untoward activity, often as much as 95% idle.

So I started up using the boot log and I've got a HUGE list of Did not
load driver...

Did not load driver ACPI Uniprocessor PC
Did not load driver Audio Codecs
Did not load driver Legacy Audio Drivers
Did not load driver Media Control Devices
Did not load driver Legacy Video Capture Devices
Did not load driver Video Codecs
Did not load driver WAN Miniport (L2TP)
Did not load driver WAN Miniport (IP)
Did not load driver WAN Miniport (PPPOE)
Did not load driver WAN Miniport (PPTP)
Did not load driver Packet Scheduler Miniport
Did not load driver Packet Scheduler Miniport
Did not load driver Direct Parallel
Did not load driver Audio Codecs
Did not load driver Legacy Audio Drivers
Did not load driver Media Control Devices
Did not load driver Legacy Video Capture Devices
Did not load driver Video Codecs
Did not load driver WAN Miniport (L2TP)
Did not load driver WAN Miniport (IP)
Did not load driver WAN Miniport (PPPOE)

Did not load driver AMD K7 Processor

Did not load driver Legacy Audio Drivers

Hundreds and hundreds of them.

ntbtlog.txt is 3.5 MEGA BYTES

Does anybody know how on earth I sort all this out please?

When was the last time you backed up your data?

Consider redoing and verifying the backups and then doing a clean install,
watching out for failing or incompatible hardware. If you want to get right
to it, just get a new hard disk, remove the old one, and install to the new
drive. Once it's all up and working, attach the old drive, perhaps via a
USB2/IDE connector, and copy the data over.

The majority of these entries are affected by your motherboard drivers.

First I'd suggest visiting Windows Update and downloading all of the updates
that apply to your system.

Then, I'd update your motherboard/chipset drivers. They should be available
at the website of the manufacturer of your computer (or motherboard if it's a
custom build).

Then you may need to do a repair install if the above steps haven't fixed
it. Here's a link to some instructions:

OK thanks.

I've done all of those and I still have a 3.39 MEGA BYTE boot log file.

So we've saved about 200k.

What next please?

I have since reloaded all those programs in the hopes that they might
pick up some of these drivers, but none have.

I still have a 3.5 MEGA BYTE log file.

I don't actually have any errors on my machine. No yellow stickers on
devices, no devices reporting present but not enabled - all the ones I
have are reporting that they are working normally. I have no running
problems, no unexplained crashes.

ALL that I have is the fact that SOMETHING appears to be attempting to
load about a dozen drivers some tens of thousands of times during start
up.

So...

What programme does this and could I get a replacement for it?

Can I remove the (up to nine) registry entries for each of these
programmes? Or can I edit them in such a way as to get them to load or
not load properly?

What are the proper filenames for these drivers? Should I make sure
that they are indeed present on my machine?
