garbled display - help

I was playing a game which I've had since Sept 2002. On exit windows
rebooted. Now all I have for the fonts is - <>"!()*&^%:"{} - and a lot of
other graphic characters. I've tried rebooting in vga, diagnostic mode thru
msconfig. Dos works fine. I installed XP SP2 and intel's extreme graphic
adapter (blue monitor on the icon tray), but the display was working fine.
Looks like all windows displays are garbled. I can't read e-mails with
outlook express. help

The first thing that comes to mind is using windows "tweak UI" which has a
function to repair fonts files.
