Garbage folders after installing service pack

There is a dozen of garbage folders residing on my hard drive like
D:\324dd3322dde etc
When I tried to remove them, xp said they were read-only, but there were no
read-only attributes associated with them....
How do I get rid of them?

A sidenote... these folders are gradually incrementing and flooding my hard
drives, and sometimes eye sore so I think I need to get rid of them...
