Gamma, Brightness, Contrast etc

Hi all,

Hoping someone can answer a question thats been nagging me since
switching over from Nvidia 4200 to an ATI9500Pro.

Absolutely every game I go into (and even windows upon startup) has
severly darkened since the switch. I've set hotkeys and adjusted the
settings often enough, but they never seem to stick. The next time I go
into a game the settings are back to dark.
Quite often when I get out of the game the screen (windows desktop)
remains too bright.

The computer loads Adobe Gamma Loader at start up if this makes a
difference.

Every time I boot up I need to adjust the screen brightness as well as
Windows is far too dark.
Usually when I access the colour option in the control panel the screen
reverts to the brighter settings (without me adjusting anything), but
doesn't stay that way unless I make some adjustment & apply it (goes
dark again when I exit the control panel if I don't save the settings).

Basically I need to know if it's normal for the screens to become so
dark as to be unplayable until the settings are adjusted & if theres any
method or add on I can use to set once and never have to worry again.
Using 3.9 Cats but problem has been evident since original Cats.

Overall I'm happy with the card, but getting tired of having to set
gamma etc every time I start windows, start a game, exit a game, go into
control panel etc. Usually I find myself playing with the graphics all
washed out or too bright/dark etc because finetuning the graphics
everytime gets too tedious.

TIA

AFAICT the gamma is completely wonked with the catalyst drivers. It
doesn't bother me so much in games but every time I go back to the
desktop after playing a game, its way to bright and I have to go reset
it. That annoys the hell out of me. At least you can set brightness
gamma within the games.

Same problem here. How difficult can it be for ATI to fix this problem.

Hi Andrew,

I don't have the 9500 but dont see any problems with my 9800. Did you
recalibrate Adobe gamma loader for your new card ? Have you trtied turning
it off to see if that helps ? The screen getting bright again when tou
enter the color setting control panel may be the driver overiding the
settings of gamma loader.

Tried all the things, combinations that I can think of but the settings
keep seem to reset themselves. This is both with Adobe Gamma loaded and
unloaded (msconfig)

Seems like I'm not the only one to have this sort of problem but theres
surely some step or way that I am missing that will enable me to set it
once and forget.

Is there any reason that the ATI card should show the graphics far
darker than was intended?
This seems to be universal in my system.
Is this the case for everyone else when they first instal their ATI
cards?

Is this what is meant when people say that by switching to ATI you are
"coming over to the dark side"?

If you installed the control panel there is an adjustment for the
desktop and 3d games under the color tab on the control panel for ATI
cards. I have the 9500 and have not had this problem and I don't load
any gamma control software.
