Gameport Problem( standard game port)????

Hi!! I have XP Pro on my computer and i have tried to connect my joystick, which is Gravis GrIP Gamepad Pro, to computer but have encountered an error. Every try i get a message that my computer detects a gameport that i install from a list under Standard System Units that lies under sound/media and game units. The real error is when i want to install the gameport it says that the port has no "resources" to work with and it asks me to change settings for I/O-interval manually. I don´t know why i get that message and i have tried every basic setting that lies within the gameport. Settings are: 0200-0200, 0201-0201, 0200-0207 and 0202-0202 and none of them seemed to work!! After that when i wanted to add my gamepad under the game units i get that annoying message- Status of the gamepad-NOT CONNECTED!!! Can you please advise me what can i do and how can i test if my port is malufunctioning or is it only question about the settings????
I have heard that it is possible to configure a joystick with the DOS system, but if that is possible than i need your help with the manual, meaning step by step-how to do it!!??
I thank you in the advance for all the help i can get!!!
