FTP and Shared Borders

Hi - We have one site where we used shared borders and asked the server to install extensions - they did but didn't like it. We use FrontPage publishing and the shared borders are great.

We are now opening a second site and we decided not to use FP extensions and FP publishing but instead use FTP which we know how to do. My questions follow:

1. Can we use shared borders in the "ALL PAGES" link bar from the home page? or do I need extensions to do this?

After copying the 2nd site from the 1st off of another drive (K drive) all looked OK. Then today FP keeps wanting to erase the shared borders added to the 2nd site before it was FTPd tot he server. The shared borders are holding on the server but are not holding in FP for some reason. It asks if I want to update due to changes and if I say yes it destroys the shared borders and if I say no it destroys the shared borders. What am I doing wrong? I am also seeing on my copied pages (that were fine last night) the html ???? on the front of the page in FP. Hope someone can help. Thank you so much! Chris

Yes, this is done at design time so doesn't require Extensions.

Certain features of Shared Border and Navigation component requires the FP2002 extensions on the
remote server

i've used shared borders and include page components where extensions are not
installed - they will still work, but with shared borders but in a limited way,
without the server extensions.

How did you copy your site from the K drive?
A FrontPage website should be published, not copied using Windows Explorer.
Copying a website using Windows Explorer is similar to using FTP to move
it - an FTPd site will be fully functional, but cannot (usually) be opened
successfully in FrontPage without losing some information, like Shared
Borders and Navigation. (The original site would not be affected).

Correction: ...an FTPd site will be fully functional, apart from any
components that require FP extensions (forms, hit counters, etc.) .....

Thank you one and all!!

Thomas can you tell me without a whole lot of work on your part what in "shared borders" would require extensions?

Thanks so much! Chris

The function where you can assign a background color to the shared border area, only available in
FP2002/2003 and published to a server running the FP2002 extensions.
