shared borders

Can anyone give me some help on shared borders? My website was working fine
using shared borders. Most pages use only the left and bottom borders and
the default page uses top, left, and bottom.

I was saving a page the other day and it took longer than usual, but nothing
seemed to be wrong otherwise. After publishing it all the pages on the web
site lost their borders and ended up with multiple copies of the page on
itself. You can see examples here:
http://www.flicklives.com/Books/books.htm
http://www.flicklives.com/default_5.asp

It appears that FP has replaced the borders with the page itself. Also the
links to images appear to have had '_borders/' added to the front end of the
url.

I know this has something to do with Frontpage extensions, but which files
actually control the shared borders?

I'm using FP 2003 SP1

Thanks
Jim Clavin

Caused by a bug in the FPextensions on the server.

There are some bugs in FP & in the FP2002 SE related to shared borders &
include pages
so make sure you (and your host) see & apply all appropriate patches from:

For info in Service Pack 1 & 2 for FP2002 / MSO XP - see:
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;[LN];Q325671

For the Host/Server running the FP2002 SE

For Unix server problems on the FP2002 SE see
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;Q299360
The latest FP SE for Unix that fix the problems
(FPSE 2000 1.4 patch and an FPSE 2002 SR 1.1 patch)
are at http://www.rtr.com/fpsupport

For NT server problems on the FP2002 SE see
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;Q298827
For FrontPage Server Extension 2002 Update - see

Thanks for the response

I'm currently running FP2003 SP1 on WinPro SP2
The ISP server is running FP2002 extensions and I am waiting for a reply
regarding if all the updates/patches have been applied

Here are some screen shots of what a page should look like and how it
appears:
http://www.flicklives.com/Temp/Temp.htm

This is my default page (currently renamed from default.asp) which has no
shared borders only includes for left and top which are in a directory
"Borders":
http://www.flicklives.com/default_0.asp
As you can see the url for the top and left border has an extra /border/ at
the beginning
"Borders/Borders/left.htm" should be "Borders/left.htm"
The same goes for the source url of all the images.

Here is a page without any borders or includes and the resulting pages when
borders or includes are inserted:

Basic page (Appears like it should):
http://www.flicklives.com/Army/army0.htm

Try to add included page to left side of Basic page (No Shared Borders):
http://www.flicklives.com/Army/army1.htm

Try to add left shared border to basic page:
http://www.flicklives.com/Army/army3.htm

Those are typical symptoms of the bugs in FP extensions.

Terrific, but how do I fix it?

According to the site settings:
The remote site FP server extensions are 5.0.2.2623 and the server is
Microsoft IIS/5.0
My local site FP server extensions are 6.0.2.6351 and no server currently in
use.

If I ftp a file directly from local to remote without using Frontpage (I
know it should not be done like this) the page appears normal
http://www.flicklives.com/default_0.asp

As soon as I open it on the remote site using Frontpage 2003 or even refresh
the directory (F5) the page gets distorted again.
http://www.flicklives.com/default_1.asp

Again I see the extra 'Borders/' in the url ( [Borders/Borders/left.htm] )
and multiple instances of of the page itself.

Are there any specific configuration files that control this behavior that
can be tweaked? I'm at a loss here.

Until you and your host apply the SP listed in the 1st response to your post you won't fix it
Your host is running FP SE Version="5.0.2.2623" and needs to upgrade
