FS2004 won't start

Alan

I just purchased FS2004, and installed it. I
selected "Custom" Installation, then chose "Complete" so
that I wouldn't have to leave the Disk#4 in the CD Drive
while using the game. Everything went smooth with the
installation.

When I tried to click "Run to complete setup", it told me
to insert Disk #4 into the CD Drive, select "OK", and
restart the application. (The disk was already in the
drive, and it had just finished copying all the files from
it).

I removed it, reinserted it, clicked "OK" like it
instructed, and got the same message again. And this is
how it continued. I don't understand why it even thinks it
needs the Disk, since I chose to do the complete
installation.

The Flight simulator program won't work at all.

I tried uninstalling it and I performed the "clean boot
install", checked for updated drivers for my CD-RW drive.

No help topics are associated with this problem, other
than a few in this group, which seem to be getting
responses from MS people for users to go though a huge
number of steps which are really involved, and some user
efforts that are insane (C'mon Hugh! Reformat the hard
drive?!?!?) Why on earth would you need to do that? Were
you having problems with a lot of your software, or just
the FS2004? Let's get real. Users shouldn't have to go
through all these gyrations just to use a software product.

At $59, it should work out of the box.

I need to add that my CD-RW drive is brand new, (MSI
52x32x52x, as is the computer, [AMD Athlon XP2500+ 1.83
GHz, with Nvidia GeForce Ti 4200 AGP 8X video card, 7200
RPM 60 Gig hard drive, and Windows XP home], and that the
CD-RW drive works fine for all other tasks.

I also need to add that I currently have FS2002 running
just fine on this computer. The new FS9 is starting to
remind me a LOT of FS2000.

Anyway, any suggestions on what to do to get the program
to work?

There are two issues here, Alan: (1) FS CoF does require the original CD
for running the game, even if you've installed everything to the drive. See
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;243258 and (2) Have
you updated the drivers for your motherboard? Might not be related to the
issue, but if you're running the VIA chipset with your AMD, you might check
for the latest 4-in-1 drivers. I had that issue on one of my desktops, and
it was cured by updating.

If those two do not help please check the FAQ from the link below...
