"frozen" video settings

My question is this.
My son (7 years old) complaiined that he couldn't see hit screen very well.
I looked and the display was severly out of adjustment.
I went into the settings propeeties and the drop down showed the color
quality was set at 4 bit display. I tried adjusting it but could not make any
changes. I tried to change to a different monitor with no luck.
I checked in the hardware manager and there were no problems there with the
drivers and display.

I did recently install a new hard drive and put windows xop SP2.
I am at a loss as to how to resolve this problem.
Given my sons young age I can't imagine that he has messed with any settings.

Any inifo would be helpful.

Maybe after reinstalling Win XP you
did not update the video driver.

Try the following...

Go to the support website of your video
adapter's mfg. and search for WinXP
compatible drivers.

If you don't know the make and model of
your video adapter...check the documentation
that came with the computer.

Also you could try these steps...
Go to...Start / Run...type...
msinfo32 ...press enter.

On the System Information screen...choose...
Components / Display / Adapter Description

You should find the make and model of your
display adapter as well as the driver version.

If the driver on the support website is more
current than the one you are running...
download it and install it. Also you should find
installation instructions at the support site.
