FrontPage Links Point to Local Computer

G

Guest

My links have suddenly stopped working in FrontPage. They now point to my
local drive instead of the files/folders in my web. I have tried reinstalling
and doing a repair/detect to no avail. I have also tried to recalculate my
links. This also happens when I download a working site back into FrontPage.
Any ideas on what the problem could be?

Usually a sign that you did not have a web / site open, (File Menu | Open Web / Site) when working
on your web content.

That is not the case here. These are sites that I have worked on for a couple
of years with no problem. For example www.voxnovusmedia.com has links that
work correctly on all pages except for the recently re -uploaded index page.
I also tried importing another site into FrontPage to see if it was one
particular site and discovered that it behaved the same way. Checking other
sites that I have created through FP(about 10 of them) revealed that they all
seem to now behave the same way. Something has definitely changed.

How was the index page worked on?

Did you have a web / site open (File Menu | Open Web / Site) or did you just File Menu | Open File?

Did you do a File Menu | Publish Web / Site or did you just publish the index page alone?

I actually had the website open and I did both a publish of the website
through the File | Menu option and by using the "Publish" toolbar item. I
also published the index page only and still the same results. Like I said I
have worked on this site for a few years and this just suddenly started
happening.

Use File Menu | Publish Web and select to publish all, overwriting everything on the destination
server, and if prompt regarding navigation, select to replace the navigation on the destination
server, DO Not select Merge.

That did not seem to work. All pages seem correct except for the index page -
it still seems to point to the local drive. Could it be something on the page
itself?

Your not going to like this answer:

Every image has it's own opening body tag that starts like this:

< body bgcolor="#FFFFFF" text="BLACK" link="#000000" vlink="#000000" alink="#000000"
onload="FP_preloadImgs(/*url*/'file:///C

You are going to have to remove and recreate the entire page.

The only thing that causes this is editing / creating the page outside of the web.
We've all done it at one time or another.

All your links point to your hard disc
-usually because you edit the page outside of a FP web
Start by opening your FP web and then the page in the web and
- removing the tag <base
href="file:///C:/Documents%20and%20Settings/Administrator/My%20Documents/My%20Web%20Sites/Vox%20Novus%20Media/index.htm">
- then file importing any images or only linking to images / pages in your site

| www.voxnovusmedia.com - I republished entire site. All pages seem to work
| except for the index page.

That worked !!! Thank you so much! One really weird thing happned that made
me over look that. The base href tag did not show up in FP. When you
mentioned it I was at first confused because I did not see it when I viewed
the code in FP. I then realized that you must have viewed the source of the
actual page and I did the same thing. Once I did I saw the tag and I had to
actually edit the page through the file editor on the web server. Once I did
that it worked. I don't know why the tag did not show up in FP.
