I am still using IE 6 on one computer running W2K and IE7 on a computer
running XP Home. I publish several web sites and have used "Hover Buttons"
for linking locally in the site. Neither IE 6 or IE 7 will actually go to
the link. When I visit the same site with FireFox there is no problem and
the link immediately is established with the hyperlink associated with the
Hover Button. When I use either IE browser and hover over the Hover Button
the selected highlight color is shown glowing as it is supposed to.

This feature used to work a while back. I do not remember how long ago it
did work but it has been numerous 'upgrades' and 'security fixes' to IE in
either flavor.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

Hi Kenneth,

A link to one of your websites where this happens would be helpful.

There have been numerous changes to IE since FP2002 was released that have
been aimed at making IE more standards compliant. These could have broken FP
code.

A link is what we need to examine your code.

Regards.

Hi Kenneth,

The Hover buttons are implemented as java applets.

When I load the sample pages I am prompted to install the Java virtual
machine run time.

Here is the MS link about Java run time installation

http://windowshelp.microsoft.com/Windows/en-US/Help/59c3a93d-1342-43a6-a01a-f720c7a17ffc1033.mspx

IE will impose the highest security restrictions when Java VM is used on web
sites (in above reference). So I am reluctant to proceed with the
installation on my machine.

I would suggest that you simplify your page and replace your Hover buttons
with just normal buttons or hyperlinks. Maybe not as 'fancy' as hover
buttons, but more practical, as all browsers and platforms will be able to
load the page without requiring additional addons.

I would imagine that the purpose of your web site is to inform, rather than
enthrall your visitors with fancy graphic effects (as a commercial site that
was aimed at selling products would). If this is the case you may like to
consider other aspects of your sites design such as font families and
colors. Users can change their browser settings to see different fonts and
colors.

The tip in designing practical web sites is the KISS principle.

Regards.

Hi David,

No, the source is not the issue I'm afraid. Thanks anyway.

Thanks Rob,

I do have Java virtual machine installed. I use it for other sites and other
features. The culprit must be in IE itself. I have changed all my other
client sites to use other than Hover buttons. I'll probably change this one
as well.

I'm building a page right now for a time-share lake house.... I was about
to put similar java mouse-over buttons on it.... please keep your results
posted if possible.

Curious...
