from domain to a workgroup

Hello,
I have inherited a win2000 in a domain mode,
1-can I make it a workgroup instead?
2- might need to replace a workstation that already logs on to domain, what
log on credential do I need to configure new workstation with so it will log
on to domain with no headaches.

Thanks for your time

Domain/Workgroup issues are usually dealt with by your
network administrator. For brief answers to your questions,

Yes.

Register it on the domain.

Yes, right-click "My Computer", select properties. On the "Network
Identification" tab, there's a button (the button is "Change" on
Server2003, may be "Properties" on W2K). In the Computer Name section,
check the workbook box and type in a name for the workgroup.

BUT BEFORE YOU DO THIS ----------

Right-click My Computer and select "Manage". Expand "Local Users and
Groups" in the left pane. Click "Users" once to highlight it. In the
right pane you should have a user named Administrator. Right-click and
set the password to something that you know. Otherwise, once you re-boot
after exiting the domain, you won't be able to log on.

If this is not your computer, and it is on a company network, don't do
it. You can't put it back if you're not an admin. And they will know you
screwed it up.

You must be a domain administrator or have those rights delegated to ypu
by an administrator.
