Freezes up windows 2000 profetional?

Every time I am in the "My computer" exploring my files,
my computer will lock up after I check through 2-5 songs,
this is not playing these songs. This is just
highlighting them to read the name. I end up having to
Control Alt Delete and shutting down "my computer" which
takes off my desktop and gives me the option to return
it... safe mode I believe. (never had to enter safe mode
in win 2k pro I love it, first error I have found.) Has
anyone had this problem? Is this a virus? Is this a bug
in the coding? Can I fix it and if so how?

In the explorer pane, whilst browsing media files, is the media player 'play
btns' visible in left hand pane. If so a thought - maybe a problem with
media player install/integration?
Try turning off any 'preview options'
