There are several freeware music trackers which allow you to create
your own NES (Nintendo Entertainment System) music. Here are the
trackers:

Nerdtracker is a freeware NES music tracker for Dos. You create your
music on the tracker & you can export it to an assembly language file
which can be assembled to play on a real NES or emulator. You can also
export it to the NSF (Nintendo Sound Format) file which can be played
on music players which have support for NSF. You can read about ths
prog at http://nesdev.parodius.com/nt2/ . You can download this tracker
& many utilities from http://nesdev.parodius.com/nt2/download.htm & you
can get lots of music written with Nerdtracker at
http://nesdev.parodius.com/nt2/music.htm . The music is in ned format
which means that you need Nerdtracker to play the file unless you
export the file to NSF.

FamiTracker is a free windows tracker for producing music for the
NES/Famicom-systems. The interface is based on MadTracker and should be
easy to use if you've been using trackers before.

One of the features is NSF-file exporting. That allows music created in
this tracker to be played on the real hardware, or even for for use in
your own NES-applications.

Some other features:
* Full real-time emulation of all channels
* Internal PCM to DPCM-sample converter
* MIDI input devices are supported
* NTSC & PAL modes are both supported

For example, you can import midi files & edit them to turn them into
NES music. You can download this prog from
http://famitracker.shoodot.net/ . Famitracker has its own file format
which is FTM. You can get some FTM which you can play in Famitracker
from http://nsf.kreese.com/ .

To play NSF, you will need a player which can play NSF's.

There is a list of NSF players/plugins at:

http://www.zophar.net/utilities/nsf.html

If you have Winamp then I suggest downloading NotSo Fatso from
http://slick.panicus.org/notsofatso.php which is an NSF music player
plugin for Winamp.

If you have Foobar 8.X, then download Another NEZplug from
http://www.vesta.dti.ne.jp/~tsato/soft_fb2k_en.html .

If you have Foobar 9.X then download foo_gep from
http://kode54.foobar2000.org/ .

Deliplayer located at http://www.deliplayer.com/ also plays NSF & it
can also play all the Amiga music formats which have never been
playable until Deliplayer was released.
