Freeware is not for everyone (Disccusion)

Ghost won't restore windows XP. That is you can restore it to
your hd
without errors, but you won't be able to log in :). The only
way I can
do it is by using windows own backup utility.

Nonsense! Unless your Ghost 7.5 works radically different from
my Ghost 2003 .. my DOS GHOST.EXE both captures and restores my XP-SP2
images flawlessly everytime. I even do it just for fun drill to
illustrate to visitors how stupidly simply it is.

There are others ALMOST as simple: TeraByte offers a DOS trial version
that is FULLY operational and doesn't expire (AFAIK). Registration is
less than $20, but this is not the purview of A.C.F.

I'm glad for you. The truth is my ghost file is about 4 gb and is in 2
parts on one dvd rom. I had no errors when I made the image and no
errors were shown when I restored it on my p4 1gb ram. It is also NTFS
partition. I can only get as far as to the welcome screen. It may have
something to do with the preinstall environment Mel posted about. I
still have the dvd, but so far it is useless (so much for my hard work
installing all the stuff :( ).

BTW I can extract all the files using
ghost explorer but they will still be useless as the os won't load.

Try this, Joe:

Uninstall every vestige of GHOST 75 from your computer. Keep ONLY the
single executable DOS file called GHOST.EXE Using a boot floppy to gain
boot up into real DOS, execute that single GHOST.EXE and see if it will
not read and repaint your 2-part image to the C: harddrive. Be certain
that the 2 parts are located together where you can go find them with
the GHOST.EXE program.

What do you mean "located together"?
