FP 2003 Issues with Access Db

Using an earlier version of FP, I created an asp and linked an Access data
base to it. Everything worked fine until I upgraded to FP 2003. After the
upgrade MS Access would no longer open the DB files within FP. When I try
to open them I get the following message (from within Access): "Microsoft
Access Cannot open this file. This file is located outside you intranet or
on an untrusted site. Microsoft Access will not open the file due to
potential security problems." I've updated my security settings, identifying
the host server as a trusted site, but this had no effect.

Another problem that begain after the update is that I am no longer able to
delete files from my web site. I get the following error message: "Server
Error: The server extensions were unable to access the file 'frontpg.lck'.
Please check the file permissions. Contact your Internet service provide or
web administrator for more information."

I've talked with guy maintaining the server who "Ordered FP2003 software" so
he could troubleshoot the problem.

Any and all assistence appreciated.

For security message, which sound like you have installed Windows XP SP2, you now need to export the
database to your desktop, and then open in Access. Beside the security issue, his also eliminates
the possibility of the database becoming corrupt, which it does it very difficult to retrieve any
stored data.

If this is on your local machine, with FP closed open the web in Windows Explorer and delete the
frontpg.lck file, in on the live/remote server, contact your web host to have them do it.

Thomas - Thank you for your response. I have a statement, and then another
question, if you would be so kind.

I was able to access the Db file by exporting it to the desktop. That is
much slower and less dynamic than doing it through FP, as was possible in the
old version. But it is progress - for which I am thankful. :)

What is the "frontpg.lck" file and why does it need to be erased? I work on
my web page over the web from my local computer and all the files reside on
the server. I am able to add files at will, and need to be able to delete
them at will too. Can this be done in FP2003? Currently I am not able to
delete any files from the web site using FP 2003.

Rick,

Besides the security issue with the database, whenever you open a external file, in this case the
database from within FP, you are not opening the actual file, you are opening a temporary copy in
the FP temp folder, then when you save and actual close the application the you edited the file
with, FP then copies the file from the Temp folder back to the web, overwriting the original file,
any breaks in the connection or glitch in your system will render the database unusable.

The frontpg.lck is one of many files and folders that the FP extensions generated and maintained
file, these files and folder are hidden and can only be access when you have Admin access to the web
server. It will never be seen from within the FP client application. So you have to contact your web
host.

Thomas,

In your first response you recommended that my web host delete the file
"frontpg.lck". My problem is that when I try to delete ANY file from within
FP03, I get an error message saying the sever extensions were unable to
access the frontpg.lck. This is very confusing to me. Is "frontpg.lck" a
file that FP03 needs to access every time I delete a file from my web site?

If "frontpg.lck" file already resides on the server (for the web host to
delete), then why does the error message say FP03 cannot find the file?
Also, if "fontpg.lck" file is already on the server and the web host deletes
it, how will deleting it make it more available for the server to find the
next time I delete a file?

It sounds like working with Access offline is the best approach. Thank you
for your explanation regarding my work with MS Access.

If frontpg.lck is a file that FP connects to every time you open a web. You have to contact your
host to have them delete this file.
