Found New Hardware Wizard

I hope someone can help.

At boot up after I log into win2kpro the new hardware wizard keeps finding a "PCI Simple Communications Controller".

It has been happening since I reinstalled windows about a month ago trying to get rid of adware.

There is no driver to be found, and the CD that came with my motherboard doesn't have anything on it that windows recognizes as useful either. In fact I tried to just install the closest thing I could find from the motherboard CD, and IDE driver of some sort, I thought it seemed related for some reason, and I got a blue screen until I was able to boot to the last known good configuration.

My question is whether I even need the driver installed? If so, where might I have success finding it? If not, how do I get the wizard to leave me alone?

Thanks

Most likely a modem driver.

Look in Device Manager for yellow blobs. See anything there like Unknown Devices? Looking through what you have that do not have yellow blobs and understanding the hardware on your machine, what's missing?

You are right

I have been using DSL and Cable for so long now I never even cared if the modem was set up when I reinstalled windows....

Sure would be helpful if Windows called it a modem rather than what it did

Thanks
