format of email address within Word document, why changed?

When I insert an email address into a Word document the and press "enter"
instead of the usual format:
"(e-mail address removed)" w/blue font & underlined in blue,
I get:
{ HYPERLINK "(e-mail address removed)" }

How do I undo this formatting?
I'm using Word 2003

I think the first thing I would do is to change my email address if that
really is yours. Never post your real address.
