Format a DVD as a data disk

I bought a new computer with R/RW DVD. I'm trying to format a disk in order that I can do daily administrative backups. What should I format a DVD as a data disk? The program for backup is Handy Backup.

What are program are you using to try to format the dvd? Windows does not
have a tool for that. You have to use a third party program.

If its for backup purposes please use data, there will be no conflict
interms of how the data is written to the disk.

I think he has the program, but does not know which format.

It could be High Format DVD or Data format.
