Ive moved away from home for the last few months and when I arrived back
yesterday, i discovered that id forgotten the password on my WinXP. I am
the onlly user on the machine and the password hint hasnt helped me at
all.
I have one universal password that I use for everything, and although
i dont remember changing it, I must have as it is not working
anymore..Any ideas?
Is it possible to bypass the password? Ive got 120GB of data on there,
so theres no way Im wiping the HD

ok, thanx. ill try that tomorrow.
The more i think about it, the most convinced i become that i neve
changed the password in the 1st place. Has there ever been instances o
Windows reseting a password? if so, is there a default it might use?

It depends on your settings. You can make the password expire every so often, in XP Pro anyway, but you'll always have the chance to change it, when that happens. But, no, barring some type of corruption of the security information, it should never change the password on its own.

thanks for your help, but i figured out a way to do it instead.
I switched the comp to safe mode, when I did this, it gave me an optio
of a 2nd username (Administrator), which didnt require a password. Onc
in this profile, I could remove the pass from my usual username an
create a new password.

Doubt this method would work for anyone, think it would have to be Hom
Edition and, your admin couldnt be password-protected.

Thx anyway
