foreign language

I installed the new Windows XP SP1 version over the one installed at the
factory in my Dell pc. Since then I have English, but in the Microsoft
programs all questions, instructions, etc. are in a foreign language. I have
talked with several techs but I can't seem to resolve this issue. Has anyone
experienced this problem? I NEED HELP!

What CD did you use to install "over the one installed at the factory"?
Where did you get it? Did you format first?

I installed it from a microsoft window announcement about the new version of
Windows XP. I am not an expert on computers, so I think I responded too
quickly. I did format before I chose to install the new version. I now have
two languages running at the same time!

What do you mean by "a microsoft window announcement"?

The microsoft window message appeared after my Windows Updates were
completed. The message said "new Windows Version SP2" -- install. So I
installed. I can't tell you what else it said because it read in a foreign
language.

Assuming we're talking about Windows Update offering you the update to
Windows XP SP2:

Copy down something you see in the "foreign language" (copy/paste would be
ideal) and post it in a reply to this thread.

Do you currently reside in the USA? Have you resided in another country
recently and did you use the computer there?

You can uninstall WinXP SP2 via Add/Remove Programs. If you do so, is
everything OK then?

I am unable to copy anything and paste it. I did write down some information
given in the Control Panel. The section "Pick a Category"; under
Accessibility Options the next category listed is: Centrum Zabezpecenia
Then there's: Bra'na firewall systema windows.............Zapute'; then
Automaticke' aktualiza'cie.........then Nastavit' Zabezpeci'enia.

Do you have any idea what language this is? I have never been out of the
United States before. I have lived in Georgia for almost 35 years. This is
the only pc I own.

If I uninstall Windows XP SP2, will I lose everything??

No.

1. Uninstall SP2 via Add/Remove Programs and reboot.

2. Run a thorough check for hijackware, including posting your HijackThis
log to an appropriate forum.

Check for Hijackware
http://aumha.org/a/parasite.htm
http://aumha.org/a/quickfix.htm
http://mvps.org/winhelp2002/unwanted.htm
http://inetexplorer.mvps.org/Darnit.htm
http://www.mvps.org/sramesh2k/Malware_Defence.htm
http://defendingyourmachine.blogspot.com/

When all else fails, HijackThis (http://aumha.net/downloads/hijackthis.zip)
is the preferred tool to use. It will help you to both identify and remove
any hijackware/spyware.

**Post your HijackThis log to http://forums.spywareinfo.com/,
http://castlecops.com/forum67.html, http://aumha.net/viewforum.php?f=30 or
other appropriate forum for expert analysis, not here.**

3. Do not install SP2 until an expert gives your HijackThis log a clean bill
of health.

THANK YOU VERY MUCH for all the information you provided. I will work on
this and let you know in time how things worked out. You have been most
helpful -- better than any support that I've had this past year. I do
appreciate this!

You're very welcome.

I don't know where else you've been seeking support but these all-volunteer
MS newsgroups are pretty good. Also see http://aumha.net <wink>.

I see you also posted about this in another MS newsgroup. David Lipman's
reply to the original post in that thread more or less mirrors mine here
(but you did a much better job of describing the problem than Karol did!):
