Fonts & Spacing

Hello!
I have huge problems with FP and the way it changes my fonts and spacing.

Sometimes FP will automatically single space my paragraphs and other times
it will only allow me to double space, unless I manually change that. AND
then when I do manually change it sometimes I have to set it at 6px and other
times 8-10px - all depends on the day, it looks different each time.

Everything looks fine in my 'Normal' view but when I switch to 'Preview' all
of the spacing is changed. I will have things double spaced and the 'Preview'
page will show them crammed all together.

It also changes my fonts. I use standard Windows fonts for the most part -
but sometimes I will italize or bold a word and in the preview it will show
it the exact opposite.

This really makes things difficult and frustrating. Is there something I can
do to fix this? Frontpage 2000 is the version that I have and Windows XP.

Use Enter for a single space between and Shift-Enter for a double space.
6, 8 and even 10 pixels are generally too small to be used on web pages ...
that is, if youwant folks to read them withour t having to manually increase
the text size in their browsers.
Sounds to me like you need to expolre the HELP files and/or get a good book.
Are you using tables to layout your pages??
This is all pretty basic stuff ... so do some research to get up to speed.
Good luck!!

Actually, it is Enter for a normal paragraph return and Shift-Enter for a single line return.

Thanks!

My problem is that even when I use the Enter button or shift-enter when I go
to the Preview pane, my FP is showing something different than what I did. If
I hit the Enter button, which should put a space between my paragraphs, my
Preview pane shows my paragraphs all scrunched together.

Apply your font and spacing using a style sheet (CSS)

and how to do that should all be listed in the Help files? If so, lovely I'll
check it out.

Thank you!

I have not used Microsoft front page yet, but am curious as to why the
spacing would change when you hit print preview as well? Please advise as I
look forward to using this and hope not to have the same problem.

Leading shouldn't change in Print Preview. The width of the printed page being fixed and different than the web page, will change...that's normal. Also some of the graphics may be re-arranged as well, that's why you would usually design a separate page for printers than for the web view...web page size varies while a piece of paper doesn't. Really not a FrontPage issue per se.

10-pixel Verdana is quite readable. I use 85% Verdana, which is about the
same, and it's much larger than those teeny-teeny fonts on the news sites.

If you would like to check out my site, it's www.dipika.org. If you find the
font too small at normal view size, I would appreciate your telling me.

85% of my default browser font size (which is "out of the box") is
about 13 or 14 pixels - the body text on your home page. I use 80%
for body text. 80% is approximately the same as 10point text is
rendered in the browser.

10 pixels is about the size of the text in your right column -
adequate for a links menu, but too small for body text. I know
several people who find even 14 pixels too small, but they know how to
increase the font size.

Interesting comment. Thanks.

But... if I manually format the 85% font to 10 pt with FP, it comes out
about the same size. If I manually format the links on the right at 8 pt,
they come out about the same size as the 65%.

In my experience browsers round font sizes to the nearest "standard"
size, unless explicitly set as pixels. I have seen no difference in
IE between fonts set between 75% and 85%, where 100% is equivalent to
12pt text.

Here a summary of what you can expect from different browsers
