Font downloading problem

Shirley Bowles

I am trying to download a font kidsn.ttf and every time I
try to install it in the C:\WINDOWS\Fonts or C:\Fonts
folder I get the following pop-up window: The KIDSN.TTF
file is currently being used and cannot be replaced.
Wait until Windows is finished using the file, and then
try again.

I have tried deleting the file and downloading again and
I still get the same message each time I try to install.
I have Microsoft XP Professional. Thank you in advance
for your assistance.

Are you adding the font with the font applet found in Control Panel?

Also, as an aside, why do you have a folder called "C:\fonts?" Any
chance you're using some other font management software?

There is nothing under the control panel for fonts. I'm
using XP Professional. There is a folder labeled Font on
the C: drive though.

I have a big question about why there's a "c:\fonts" folder. I'm not
certain why that would be there. Any chance you got this system handed
down to you or that someone installed (then perhaps uninstalled) some
solftware that needed that folder?

If you're going to Control Panel in "Category View" look in the
Appearance section (and once you click on it, then look in the left
bar, the fonts folder should be there).

If you're viewing control panel in "Classic View" then a Font applet
should be there.

If your system doesn't have it then it may be hidden or you may need
to repair your Windows installation. I've never screwed around with
the Windows fonts applet, as I use Adobe Type Manager to install
fonts.
