Two days ago I posted a question about how to map a USB thumb-drive on a
remote system (Mapping a remote USB thumb-drive - 10/25/2004 by BobS).
Turns out to be the share name was the problem but this is a bit weird. The
"ISTIK" name is embedded in the USB drive and when the drive is shared, the
name showed as:
ISTIK (G) with the G being the next available drive letter. What threw me
was that the share name was also the same "ISTIK (G)" which surprised me.
Typically, when you check Sharing & Security it will list the sharename but
not the drive assignment as part of the sharename. Even if I renamed the
drive to a single letter, I could not map it. Finally, I changed my script
and tried mapping to "ISTIK (G)" from the remote system (without the quotes)
and it works.
Something strange going on here but no matter what else I changed the share
name to, it would not map - only the ISTIK (G) moniker....
So in case anyone else is using an ISTIK thumb drive and want to map it and
can't - this may be the problem.
