Folders Pane in Windows Explorer

Hi,

I'm rebuilding my computer and trying to setup my XP Home the way I had it
before. Whenever I open Windows Explorer, I only get a single-pane view. I
have to press the Folders button to get the Folders Pane on the left. I've
never had to do that before and I can't firgure out what setting I need to
change to make the Windows Explorer automatically open with the two panes
visible.

Thanks in advance for any advice.

Thanks for the quick reply.

I've done that, but every time I close and then reopen the Explorer, it is
unchecked.

fc42:

To permanently keep your view as Folder view whenever you open Explorer:

1. Click on a Folder and set it up as you want (columns, View -
Detail..., )
2. Click on Tools | Folder Options
3. Click on View Tab
4. Click on Apply to All Folders
5. Click on OK
6. Close Explorer
7. Reopen Explorer

You should be OK. If you want to change any of the Folder Options (on the
View tab, lower window, change those before you click on the OK button).
You can always do that later as well.

Thank you. Everything seems to be working OK now. I think the problem was
that I was opening the page from a link in My Computer instead of going to
the Start Menu and finding the Explorer link there.

I appreciate all the friendly responses and good advice. I really hate
doing a rebuild!

Thanks again,

That's why I always add Windows Explorer to my Quick Launch bar.

Are you aware that the Windows key + E starts Windows Explorer? I never put
it in the Quick Launch Bar because the shortcut key makes it unnecessary,
and I don't want to waste the Quick Launch space.

Are you aware that I don't use the Quick Launch at all. I hate wasting space
and useless clicks. Same as adding the desktop toolbar. I hate clutter. To
each his\her own. TTFN.

Doesn't help if you have arthritis and are right handed. Plus a little
Carpal Tunnel.
After 30 years on PC, it takes its toll.

That is also why I also have a top taskbar, containing Office icons and
Desktop Search. That way, I can keep Quick Launch small and have plenty of
room for apps (in groups).

You can get a lot on the taskbar at 1024x768 or 1280x1024.

Ah, sorry to hear that, and if clicking an icon is easier on your hands than
akeyboard shortcut, I understand.

I have the Quick Launch bar on the left side of my screen set to Always on
Top and AutoHide. When I'm not using it it only takes up a one pixel
column.

Try this: Right-click on desktop, New, Shortcut.
Copy & Paste the following into the box.
%systemroot%\explorer.exe /e,::{20d04fe0-3aea-1069-a2d8-08002b30309d}
