I just upgraded to XP. When I went to a picture folder and clicked view i
would have the usual options, list, icons, thumbnails, etc. and also an
option called film strip with which I could have a slide show preview. Film
strip option has disappeared. Helped needed please.

Right click on the folder name and then Properties. Click on Customize tab
and select Pictures or Photos Album for folder type. Filmstrip view is
available only for these types of folders.
Normally, if the first file in a folder is a picture file, the folder
default to Pictures or Photos and filmstrip is automatically available. If
your first file listed in the folder is indeed a picture file, doing the
above will work, but I suspect XP is no longer automatically associating
picture files.
So, do something more to repair this.
Click on Start and click on Run and type the following in the opening
textbox:
REGSVR32 SHIMGVW.DLL
and press Enter
Note that there is a space between ...32 and SHI...
This will take a few seconds to run and you will get a "success" message.
