I do not think that is what I need. Maybe I just do not understand that
setting.

I can still add items and I can still change default(this does operate same
was 98se), but the edit and delete r always grayed. I m still lost.

I'm assuming you're talking about the 'Folder' file type. If not, please correct me. If you are,
the advice I gave is correct. Open regedit & navigate to:

'HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Folder'

and look at the value named 'editflags'. it will be either a DWORD (0x000003d2) or Binary (d2 03 00
00). Changing the 'd' to a '1'(one) will allow editing & removal of commands for the 'Folder' file
type.

There is no 'editflags' in 'HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Folder'

That's not normal. When I delete the 'EditFlags' value, 'Folder' disappears from the file types
dialog. Weird that you would see it with just some options disabled if it didn't exist Maybe try
creating the entry and assigning it the value of 0x000003d2.

You are running under a logon with appropriate permissions, aren't you?

There is another dir called PersistentHandler in the Folder dir.
Folder dir just has (Default) REG_SZ Folder
and the subfolder called PersistentHandler has (Default) REG_SZ
{098f2470-bae0-11cd-b579-08002b30bfeb}

PAUL!!! I'VE FIGURED OUT THE CONFUSION!!!

:)

You are looking at the entry '.Folder' <-- "dot" Folder

Keep scrolling down thru HKey_Classes_Root until the entries start with actual letters. Look for
'Folder' <--- no "dot"

One more for the road. How did these settings change in the first place??

Paul

You're welcome! I believe the default is to not allow edit/remove to these types to avoid damage to
the basics (open/explore/find). I know I had to modify mine to allow those actions.

Perhaps they were tweaked by a 3rd party program. Had you done a restore or reinstall?

hmmm who knows....No restore or reinstall here. I had modified mine before,
those being disabled was a new thing for me. Well, it is not the only thing
that has changed all by itself. Ghosts maybe.

thanks again,
paul
