Folder could not be displayed - Windows Mail could not open this f

I just transfer my files from my old XP computer to a new desktop with
Windows Vista.
When I check Windows Mail I see all my folders with several unread messages
but I can open it.

The Windows message is completed with " Possible causes are: Low disk space.
- Low memory ".

At the moment of this message my new desktop was having 94GB disk space and
1.3 GB memory free.

Try repairing the database:

Run the cmd prompt as Admin and copy and then in there

esentutl /p "%USERPROFILE%\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows
Mail\windowsmail.msmessagestore"

Fill in the %USERPROFILE% to match your profile (e.g. c:\users\nrc)

Then reopen WinMail and see if that fixes it.

I have the same problem (all folders cannot be displayed because of memory
problems) and I tried the www.oehelp.com/WMUtil/ tool and I tried the cmd
line esentutl command but in both cases I have the problem that the
windowsmail.msmessagestore file is locked. Windows mail is not active but
still I cannot run the WMutil tool and the esentutl command. Any ideas on
what program might lock the windowsmail.msmessagestore file? Any ideas on how
to unlock the file?

Do a CTRL-SHIFT-ESC and end task any running instance of WinMail.exe. Also
disable any antispam and antivirus software set to scan email.

I tried the recommended utility esentutl immediately after rebooting and
turning off virus checker, but it did not repair the mail database. Is there
another approach? I see the folders but only the "low disk/ low memory"
message with each folder. Is there a way to reset / reinitialize the mail
database and start over?

But I have to use my PC on the road with a slow connection lots of times.
So Windows Live Mail is not a solution.

I don't understand. Why do you consider WLM a poorer
solution for travel use than WM?
Sounds like you have some sort of misconception.

When you travel overseas, you do not always get high speed lines. So WLM is
not a good alternative. Right now I need to solve the Window Mail problem
before I can even get to use my new computer!!

Connection speed means the same thing to Windows Mail and Windows Live Mail.
I don't like Windows Live Mail, but that certainly isn't one of the reasons,
They are both desktop applications and take exactly the same length of time
to download mail.

I know you said you had the same problem, but humor me and describe yours.
It might very well not really be the same.

O.K. Here it is: After I used Easy Transfer to transfer my OE6 from my old XP
computer to the new VIsta computer, I can sometimes see the folder list when
I opened WIndows Mail, but when I click on any of the folders, the error
message "Folder could not be displayed" shows. Possible cause listed is
"Low disk space" and "Low memory". But I have 160GB of disk and 2GB of
memory (1GB physical and 1GB virtual). I said "sometimes", because each
time I opened Windows Mail, it behaves differently, sometimes it shows the
folder list, sometimes it does not. Sometimes it even showed the folder
contents! When it showed the folder contents, I exited WM and came back
into it immediately, the contents will again disappear and I got the "Folder
could not be displayed" error message again and again. It's so frustrating.
On top of this, I can not send out emails from WM either, but that's the
next problem. I really think Microsoft should recall Vista or Windows
Mail, or both. Anyone can help, please??

You didn't answer my question.
Why do you consider WLM "not a good alternative" when
using a low speed connection?

WM and WLM use the same TCP/IP transport mechanisms
for POP and IMAP access, so there is no speed difference.

Given the multiple problems you are having with Windows Mail,
I highly recommend you switch to Windows Live Mail.

I thought WLM is a web-based email service like Hotmail. Is it not? If it
does facilitate a one-time downloading of POP3 emails and allows off-line
viewing and folder management like Outlook Express, I can consider using it.

Windows Live Mail basically does everything that Windows Mail
does, plus it has access for Hotmail accounts. It does not
work with non-Hotmail web mail.
