Flooded with past recieved email messages

I recieved in my inbox all the past messages that I had received and that had
been saved in my email folders. It was several hundred messages. Can someone
help me and explain what happened or why this would happen?
I've since gone in a deleted a lot of these saved messages

Did this happen suddenly?

Are there two copies of each there or are you saying the messages you
had read suddenly just appeared again?

If the latter then to up to the top menu and pick "View" and see if it
says to show all messages or to hide messages you have already seen, my
guess is that got changed to "Show All" by accident.

So the messages came again with the one's you had already moved into
folders staying in those folders, right? If that's right I can't say
I've seen it happen before. I guess it could be a server issue too.
