First IE window won't open links or dialog boxes

I recently added RoadRunner's free EZ Antivirus software to my computer.
Briefly used their firewall as well, however, have since uninstalled it (due
to multiple problems). I'm running Win98SE, and using IE 6.0.

Most of my problems have resolved, however, I have two annoyances remaining.
When I open IE, that window will not follow links which open in new windows
and some dialog boxes will not open. The bar blinks, the computer locks for
a minute or so, then returns to normal (having not opened anything).

The second is that in forums, when a picture is added, the link for the
picture shows up, however I have to follow the link to see it rather than it
appearing in the thread as it used to.

Thanks for you help with either of these problems!

I forgot to mention that with the first problem, if I manually open a new
window (File -> Open New Window), the new window works normally, can open
links in new pop up widows or work with dialog boxes. However, the original
window will continue to malfunction.

Try an IE Repair? (ref. KB194177)

Tried IE Repair without any change, any other ideas? Thanks!

Try toggling off Show Pictures and use it that way.
E.g. wait for a page to come in with image placeholders only
and then use right-click, Show Picture to display some of the images.
Then toggle Show Pictures back on and see if there is any change
in your original symptom.

For a more extreme variation of this idea toggle off Show Pictures again
but instead of toggling it on separately use the Advanced tab's
Restore Defaults button. Make a note of your current settings if necessary
before using the button.

Good luck

Robert
