I don't have a firewire card - only a USB on my PC.

I have a Sony DCR - TRV18 which has DV Out but not DV in.

Would I benefit from a Firewire card given that my only use is to make short
programmes on the PC to archive them onto CD?

Hello there,

Capturing via USB will result in a lower quality file and may need an extra
cable to capture the audio. You will not be able to capture DV-AVI quality from
your DV camera using USB

Capturing via Firewire will result in the best possible quality from your
camera.

When editing video it is always better to work with the best quality files,
editing always causes some small amout of quality loss.
