Firewire Card Problem

If anyone can offer a thought on the following, I'd be most appreciative.

I am running XP Pro on a Dell Optiplex 330. Some months back, I installed a
Firewire card to allow downloading from my Canon ZR65 digicam, and it worked
fine several months ago when I last used.

However, now when I connect the camera to the PC, the XP is not recognizing
the camera.

Here are the pertinent details which may provide a clue to what I guess must
be a malfunctioning firewire card, though I hoped someone would let me know
if there is other troubleshooting I should pursue first:

1. Under device manager, I see the card, listed as OHCI Compliant IEEE 1394
Host Controller. There are no identified device conflicts, and the device is
listed as working normally.
2. I uninstalled the device, rebooted, XP went through the dialog showing
recognition of new hardware and then stated ready for use, but it still does
not recognize the camera
3. I connected the camera to an older XP Home PC, and it was
recognized...so, obviously no issues with the camera or the firewire cable

So, is there anything else I should try before buying a new fireware card
and trying that?

Thanks so much if anyone has any suggestions.

I assume the firewire card has more than one port. Have you tried plugging
the camera into a different port?

When the camera is plugged in, does it appear in device manager (possibly as
an 'unknown device'). What happens if you remove it and then reconnect it
allowing the PC to rediscover it.

Thanks for trying to help on this.

Yes, I have tried both of the two ports, no response.

I tried rebooting with the camera "on", but still no device
recognition...and nothing in device manager.

I am now beginning to suspect that it is a Windows software issue, since the
PC acknowledges the Firewire hardware...and I am going to next investigate if
somehow my Zone Alarm software is the culprit...seems unlikely that the
Firewire card itself is not working, I guess.
