Firewire card installed, "code 10"

Brenton

Hi,
I've looked everywhere for an explanation for this error
and can't find a thing. I just bought a firewire card
the other day so I could upload video off my camera.
When I installed the card in my computer, it installed
drivers but gave me "device cannot start (code
10)"...I've tried installing and reinstalling, with the
same results. The only thing that has happened that is
strange is that when I start my computer in safe mode, it
doesn't appear to be having any issues with the card.
That leads me to believe that I am having a hardware
conflict of some sort, but windows won't let me change
any settings. How can I fix this problem?

Thanks,
Brent

Hello Brent,
You might want to go to your Devise Manager and delete the
Firewire port located under Network Adapters. When you
reboot, windows will reinstall it. Also if you go to the
"Run" under the Start button and type "msconfig" which will
bring up the system congiguration window you will see a tab
at the right called startup. Here you can systematically
turn off programs that load at startup untill you locate
the possible conflict. I hope some of this helps.

I tried the device manager, but that didn't fix the
problem. I also tried pulling the card out and putting
it into another slot with the same results. Are there
any particular startup processes that could be causing
problems...because at this point there are at least 25 of
them. What could be the reason for the card working in
safe mode but not in windows?
