Firewall not working?

Jake

I have a pc running Windows Xp Pro SP2. I connect to the internet using a
Linksys AG241, 4 port Gateway. I also run zonealarm firewall. I went onto
sheilds up internet vulnerablity testing site and tested my firewall. My
computer failed the test. A lot of the ports were open. I used to run this
test when all I had was a usb modem and my computer passed the test. Am I
getting false results because of the new gateway?

Go into the AG241 and look at the application / gaming page, see
what ports are actually open, unsellect what you don't require

Hi,

Thanks Roberto for greate suggestion.

I think you can run Netstat -a at command prompt to check which ports are
opened.

Shields Up! will only test the gateway's IP ports, not your PC's. Since it is
only the gateway that has the public IP address (gateway router??), you will
need to check to see if:

1) The router have a firewall?

2) Router's firewall settings

3) Make sure that the firewall is active (some router can have the firewall
disabled.)

4) Your PC is not on the DMZ port.

Hi,

Here is summary of this issue:

1, run Netstat -a to check if you have unwantted ports opened
2, Shields Up will only test the gateway's IP ports, not your PC's.

Let me know if you still have concerns.
