Our grandson downloaded and wants to install Firefox on our machine. He uses
our computer more than we do and he said he could use the Firefox and we
could still use our IE6. We do not know if we should let him. Would anyone
have an answer or suggestions. Will each one work while the other is also
installed on the same computer.
Thank you for any help...

Hello, yes they'll both function okay quite independently of each other.

However if you're sharing a user account, then one of the other would be the
"default" browser (when you click on a URL, or if another program launches
the web browser it will launch the default), however if your son has is own
profile that's a non-issue.

Thank you kindly for your answer. Where would the default browser be listed?
I am sure he would make firefox his default browser, but we would like to
make ie our default browser. We use AOL to sign onto the web and then we
click on the 'blue' IE icon at bottom of screen to switch over to IE. (Would
the firefox and IE have the same place to list them as the default browser?)
Thanks agaon.

You can see what the current defaults are by navigating to Start -> All
Programs -> Set Program Access and Defaults you can control what's the
default for what from there, however they'll typically ask when you start
them up if you want to make them the default.

If you son has a separate user account then it will simply install become
the default on his and leave the other user accounts alone.

Thanks again. Our grandson uses our notebook after we sign-on. He uses our
AOL account. When we click on "Start / All Programs" we do not see "Set
Program Access and Defaults." (Sorry for being such a pest.)

Hmm try looking in Control Panel / Add or Remove Programs, should be listed
down the left hand side in that window.

If you find that once you have set Firefox as your default browser, but
things that you launch from your Quick Launch area still open in your
previous browser, you'll need to empty your temp files in your previous
browser, as well as clear cookies.
To do that, open your control panel, go to Internet options.delete temp
files and clear cookies
Then, in I.E. internet options>programs tab, remove the mark next to
'Internet Explorer should check to see if it is the default browser'.
