Firefox

I've been advised by a couple of MVP's to not use Internet Explorer as my
default browser.... to use Firefox instead, because it is less vulnerable
than Internet Explorer. I therefore, have Firefox, and like it alot.

However, I'm using Juno, which opens to IE. How do I have Juno open to
Firefox? And more importantly, how do I remove IE?

Thanks so much for any help on this subject.

With the latest updates installed, Internet Explorer is no more vulnerable
than alternative third-party browsers. Internet Explorer is a key component
of Windows XP and cannot be removed by design.

Make Firefox your default browser. Open Firefox and go to
Tools/Options/General
And more importantly, how do I remove IE?

DON'T! You need it for Windows Updates and some sites won't work well with
Firefox. Also, it is an integral part of Windows.

Horsepucky. Ever hear of ActiveX? Not only that, it doesn't have tab
browsing among many other useful features.

I like Firefox, and use it a lot. However as it gets more popular then
there will be more ways found to attack it's insecurities. I run both as
the need arises.

I assume you're using paid Juno with their software. If so, you should
direct this question to Juno support. I believe they wrap the IE engine in
their own functionality and they may or may not have an answer.

BTW, although SP2 does narrow the gap, it's very doubtful that IE is as
secure as Firefox due to it's deep (and largely senseless) integration into
Windows. You can't remove IE completely for the same reason. It's also
needed for Windows update.

HEAR! HEAR!

I was a user of a registered - read: PAYED FOR - version of Netscape
back in the "old days", but switched to IE when it became an integrated
part of the OS (must've been almost 10 years ago).

I switched to Firefox when it left beta, and for the most part I've not
looked back. GREAT program, GREAT plugins. Blows IE away (but still
doesn't read all web pages as well as IE).

It's the DEFAULT browser on my system, not for security reasons, but
because I ABSOLUTELY LOVE TABBED BROWSING. I use IE only for Windows
Update (nothing else works).

Oh... I almost forgot: Carey is a doofus. Always was, always will be.

The next time he has an original thought will be the FIRST time.

ActiveX is only a threat if you have it enabled. It's simple to disable.
There are many 3rd party shells that use IE's rendering engine and have
much more security than IE. Maxthon and Avant come to mind.

Carey, MS STILL gives instructions on how to secure it, and nothing in
the updates have made those changes to users systems. IE is still a very
viable threat to computers.

While FireFox is not perfect, it's a LOT safer than IE has ever been.

Open the CONTROL PANEL, ADD REMOVE PROGRAMS, select SET PROGRAM ACCESS
and DEFAULTS, Expand the CUSTOM branch, Under Default Web Browser,
select "Mozilla FireFox" and then OK button - don't disable IE, just set
FireFox - from this point apps will open with FF instead of IE.

That did not answer the question asked.
I use Firefox as well, and much prefer it as a browser.

To the OP - just set Firefox as your default browser in internet properties,
look around you'll find it.
I would not recommend trying to uninstall IE.

Iexplore.Exe is a WFP (Windows File Protected) module. If you
rename/move/delete it, XP will silently replace it. Best to not try
and remove or disable it, just set your preferred browser as Don
suggested.

You have to set it through Program Access Defaults in the Add-Remove
Programs section or it doesn't seem to take for all applications that
request it.

The best feature of FireFox is it uninstalls quite nicely.

How the heck did you get nominated for MVP with your simple, closed
minded, lack of experience?

If that is a feature, then it is one IE is sorely lacking isn't it.

Again, nothing to do with the OP's question... so why bother?

Absolutely astounding information. He did not ask you about security on
IE yet you volunteered this fud without even trying to answer the
question asked.

Why did you even bother replying to the question if you could not
provide anything to help?
