Firefox and Prefbar extension?

M

ms

I used to install FF extensions, had good results. Now, I will only install one
that is really necessary.

In FF 093, I originally installed the Prefbar extension. The advantage is I can
enable/disable javascript and images easily on a toolbar, less keystrokes than the
normal Tools/Options. It used to work fine.

Last week, had to go to a new profile, so reinstalled Prefbar. This time it messed
up the normal toolbar, had to create another profile.

Now, I'm running FF 1.0.1.

Has anyone installed Prefbar in FF 1.0.1, does it work OK or cause problems?

What version? I am using FF 1.0.1, but with PrefBar 3.0.0 (I believe current is
3.1.0); 3.1.0 fouled FF up something *fierce*, so later was uninstalled &
earlier was re-installed.

From your luck, and my luck, I think I need to find a different extension that
can easily enable/disable javascript and images.

IIRC, Jo originally recommended Prefbar. Hope he reads this.

Any ideas on another one?

Perhaps an earlier version/release (than 3.0.0) of Prefbar?

I'm running FF 1.01 and PREFBAR 2.3.1

WFM, hth
I installed Prefbar 2.3.1 in 1.0.1. In Customize, it starts with an empty screen,
you have to add each option choice- is that normal?

How do you do that step?

I also tried PrefButtons. It shows nothing in Customize, may be for earlier FF.

I think so. When I hit "customize" I get a dialog titled Preference
Toolbar. It has two columns. One called Available Items, the other called
Enabled Items. I can select options on either side and add/remove. I
suspect the defaults in the right column are PrefbarHelp, What's new, and
Customize. There are 15-20 items in the Available Items column.
How do you do that step?

Select an item and hit the Add Items button.

Hello,

Sorry to jump in on your discussion but I have a question that I
thought someone had the answer to. After installing PrefBar all new
links open in multiple tabs or new windows, a lot of windows! How can
I go back to just one window? Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks!

Thanks for the info.
Now I see the problem- I have the same screen, but Available is empty, and so is
Enabled. All buttons except New and Import are greyed out.

I went into FF Options, everything is normal, thought I might have had something
unselected that effected Prefbar, but don't see it.

It's as if my FF version is not compatible, but it just says 1.0+, is a nightly
build of 1.0.1.

Any advice on how to fix this?
I will try to email the author, may not hear back.

Maybe you should download the latest "released version" in lieu of the
nightly builds. I've always used the released versions.

Sorry, got none. Come to think of it. I didn't actually install PrefBar
in 1.0.1. I installed it in 1.0 and months later upgraded to 1.0.1. I
can't imagine this has anything to do with it. Who know?

Good luck.

Thanks.
Today was the last straw. Cold boot each AM, so today, FF 1.0.1 would not open
from a hot link in Thunderbird, like normal. So I'm back to FF 0.9.3, it works. I
just tried PrefButtons, it puts options in Taskbar Customize, but they still can't
be dragged to the taskbar. So the fun continues. All this was caused by a bookmark
extension that screwed up 093, where PrefBar used to work fine.

Problem is solved, PrefBar 2.3.1 is working again in FF 093. Extensions are a real
issue at times.

Great news.

It'd be interesting if you tried an upgrade to 1.0.1 now..... while
PrefBar is apparently installed and running.

I suspect this doesn't appeal to you after all the hassle you've been
thru' ;-)

Nice news Mike , what was the fix ?

Dunno.
That combo did work fine, then a bookmark extension messed up 093 so I had to open
a new profile. In the new profile, PrefBar would not work, uninstalled PrefBar. I
went to FF 1.0.1 and PrefBar wouldn't work in my 101 version. Went back to the
very same FF 093, reinstalled PrefBar, now it works. "under the hood" changes
constantly on the hard drive.

Right. FF 101 worked for me just like 093, except when I go to bookmark a site, it
starts at the default Bookmark folder, where 093 starts at the last folder used, a
better system. I plan to stay with 093. I generally don't upgrade directly from
one version to the next, I use the noinstall versions, and keep them independent.
