Find the original creator of an Excel file

There are a few mysterious Excel files in my network folder. I think
it's accidentally dropped by someone on the network. I thought you can
find the original creator's name based on the name of copy Excel was
registered to. Where do I find that information?

Thanks!

The properties as viewed from within Excel will name the original author (or the
most recently set author if has been modified). This could be the same for every
copy of the file on the network and is stamped by Excel at file creation.

But Windows Explorer can reveal the name of the person who dropped the file into
the folder. Look at properties of the file then "Security tab", "Advanced" look
at the Owner Tab. If it was an administrator then the owner will be
"Administrators" otherwise it will be the name of the person that created the
file copy. If a file is moved from folder A to Folder B on the same logical
partition then the ownership is not updated. If it is copied (or moved to a
different disk) the owner is updated.

Thank you all for the help. I found the owner now. I learned new
things each time reading this group. THANK YOU!
